What kind of place should Orono be in the future? What are our best features, those that should be protected or should be made even better? What changes does the community anticipate, and what should we do about them?
The Town Council has recently appointed the Comprehensive Plan Committee, an ad-hoc committee of 13 citizen volunteers of various backgrounds and expertise, to guide the 18-month long Comprehensive Plan Update process that will answer these questions and more.
The last Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2014, and much has changed since then! The updated plan will address several topic areas that are of particular relevance to the community, including housing, transportation, recreation, natural resources, public facilities and services, and more.
The updated plan will serve as the foundation for public policy and land use decisions in the future, and will provide an ongoing framework for both public investment and private development in Orono.
Your input is crucial to developing a plan that reflects the values and priorities of the community. Over the course of the planning process, this site will be updated with information on project progress and new opportunities for participation, both online and in person.
